1160, Gruffydd’s father died. The lands north of the river Rhaeadr was subdivided between Gruffydd and his brothers Owain Fychan [illegitimate] and Owain Brogyntyn [illegitimate]. Gruffydd received Maelor [Bromfield].
1163, King Henry II invaded Wales.
8/1165, King Henry II invaded Gwynedd again. Owen Cyfeilioc and Gyffydd Maelor [1st cousins] faced King Henry at Crogen [Chirk castle].
