1746, Hugh born in Co. Atrium, Ireland, s/o 66. John Montgomery.
1752, Margaret born in Charles Town, SC, d/o George Scott & Elizabeth ?.
10/1772, Hugh and his family departed from Larne, Ireland on the ship Lord Dunluce for SC. The Lord Dunluce was a 400 ton ship carrying about 400 passengers captained by James Gilles.
12/20/1772, Hugh and his family arrived in Charles Town, SC. [See No. 66 notes.]
1/6/1773, Hugh granted 100 acres identified in Plat Folder 1369, in Craven Co. on the waters of Little River, bordered by John Smith; and to be surveyed on 3/16/1773. (S) No.66 Family Notes, No.3, P48. This indicates he was single when he arrived. Each immigrant also received 10 pounds gold to build a house. (S) See No.66. This land is located in what is now Fairfield Co.
1774, Hugh married Margaret in SC.
2/10/1775, Hugh, land grant for 186 acres in Craven Co. (S) SCDA&H, S-213019, V-35, P-130.

5/7/1804 Hugh’s will was proved by Jno Buchanan. Recorded 9/20/1804.

·         Will of Hugh Montgomery Senior: “In the Name of God Amen. I Hugh Montgomery Senior being weak in body but of sound mind and calling to remembrance my mortality I now make and ordain this my last wil and Testament in the manner following  That is to say, I lend and bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret Montgomery during her life and to be at her disposal during her life all my lands goods chattels and property of every kind real and personal to distribute and give in such manner and when as she pleases, that at her decease my land be divided into two equal parts and given to my sons David and Charles with an equal division of the utensils for working it. That all my other property and moveables be equally divided amongst my Children David, Charles, Margret, Elizabeth and Martha; As to my Hugh and Jane who have already received from me a comptency of worldly substance at their marriage I bequeath unto them the Sum of ten Dollars each. And I appoint the Revd. James Rogers and Charles Montgomery Senr. as the Executors of this my last Will and Testament.
