1636, George immigrated to VA; patenting land in Middlesex Co. He arrived aboard the ship Guiding Star with an unknown person named “Fra Chowning”. [He had been transported by John Chandler of Elizabeth City Co.]
George given 5 shillings in the will of his mother in England.
8/28/1642, George Chowning, 600 acres. Up. New Norf. Co., Upon the W. br. of Nansamund River, along land of Francis Maulden & Thomas Brice. 500 acs. by assignment from Georg Ludlow & 100 acs. for trans. of 2 pers: William Amy & Maulin Bennett.
10/29/1643, Thomas Brice, 150 acs. Up. Norf. Co., Lying on the Ewd. side of the N.W. Br. of Nansimund River against Indian Cr., adj. Georg Chowning and Francis Mauldin.
2/9/1649, George “Chewning” assigned 300 acres in James City Co. to Stephen Durden.
6/30/1653, Robert Chowninge, 250 acs. Lancaster Co., …; assigned by Geo. Chowninge. [Later sold by his daughter-in-law Joan Chowning.]
