Bond 2120 & 2121

2120. Richard Hamby & 2121. Margery ? [England] {&2184&3144&3208, &2185&3145&3209}


9/21/1592, Richard baptized in Tathwell, Lincolnshire, England, s/o 4240. Edward Hamby & 4241. Elizabeth Reade.
Their’s was a large household of at least 9 children, all christened at St. Margaret’s Church, adjoining Westminster Abbey, London.
11/25/1616, Richard “under age” at the death of his father.
4/2/1621, Richard legatee of his brother Edward.
Richard was a close associate of Sir Thomas Dale and appears to have traveled extensively in his behalf. [Thomas Dale was one of the early governors of VA; his wife was Elizabeth Throckmorton. The Dale and Hamby families intermarried.]
2/17/1634, Richard, age 38, traveled to Barbados on the ship Hopewell.
7/24/1634, Richard, age 38, and Samuel Hamby, age 25 [and likely Richard’s brother], sailed on the ship Assurance to VA. Hungate Baker, who later has a record with Richard’s son Richard, and other members of the Baker family were also on the ship. The Baker family had been working the lands of the Dale family in VA.
7/4/1640, will of Lady Elizabeth Dale, widow of Sir Thomas Dale: “To Edward Hamby, son of Mr. Richard Hamby all my land, with appurtenances, in Charles Hundred in Virginia and all my estates and interest therein. To Richard Hamby, son likewise of the said Mr. Richard Hamby, all my land &c. in Shirley Hundred in Virginia. … and the other moiety I give to my worthy, deserving friends Mr. Richard Hamby and Mr. William Shrimpton, whom I do make and ordain sole executors.” (S) New England Hist. and Gen. 1641, Samuel Chandler residing in England was hired by William Shrimpton … and Richard Hamby of the City of Westminster in the County of Middlesex , Executors of the last Will and Testament of Dame Elizabeth Dale … to act in their steads to settle the estate of the Dales ….

Edward married Eleanor Booth.
7/4/1640, Edward left VA lands in the will of Lady Dale.

ii. Richard Hanby/Hamby ( 1060), christened 9/3/1626 in London, England.

iii. Sarah Hamby, born ?.
~1640, Sarah arrived in VA with her brother Richard.

iv. William Hamby, born ?.
[William probably traveled at the same time as his siblings to America.]
1667, William Hanby paid quit rent on 210 acres to Gov. William Penn of PA.
