1/20/1444, “Commission to Edward Stradelyng, knight, …, John Sydenham and …, master of a ship called Seint Anton of Biskay, Spain, sailing with … with letters of safe-conduct, touched at the port of Dalkey, Ireland, and sold their mechandise to merchants of Dublin … save 40 tuns of wine and 300 quarters of salt, and afterwards John Colwell … attacked the said ship and took the same with the said wine and salt to the port of Bruggewater, … make inquisition in the county of Somerset into whose hands the ship and cargo have come, ...” (S) Extracts from Calendar of Patent Rolls.

Family notes:
• There are multiple “John Sydenham” persons living in this area at this time. Two are even brothers, one the elder and the other the younger; while another “the younger” is actually a grandson, s/o Walter, s/o John.
