1450, Walter Culpeper, of Goudhurst, esquire; and his sons John Culpeper and Richard Culpeper of Goudhurst, gentlemen; were among the “Tall Personages” in the Weald of Kent or on its borders who obtained pardons for their participation in the Rebellion of Jack Cade. 10/22/1475, “Sir John Colepeper Knt. & Thomas Roger, to Henry Patynden & Thomas Dodde of Goudhurst, appointing them to give seisin of said lands to Robert Kent of Hedcorne.” (S) UKNA.

1476, John cleard his debt to Brian Talbot.

Agnes died before John.

12/22/1480, John: Knt., of Bedgebery in Goudhurst, Kent; Hardreshull, Warwickshire; Wigsell in Salehurst, Sussex, buried next to his wife and father in St. Mary’s, Goudhurst. (S) Date on tomb.

Family notes:

·         From a 1/4/1529 indenture, John wrote a will which is lost.

·         9/22/1516, “Sir John Culpeper, sometime of Goudhurst, Knight” … “Walter Culpeper and Agnes his wife my father and mother”, named in the will of John’s brother Richard.

·         1490, a monumental brass depicting Sir John Culpeper and his wife placed in the church at Goudhurst. [Brass is next to that of John Bedgebury, 1st husband of John’s mother.]

Children of John and Agnes:

i. Alexander Culpeper, born 1454 in England.

[Named after his uncle Alexander Clifford.]

Alexander received the lands in Sussex and Essex.

ii. Walter Culpeper (39064), born ~1460 in Kent, England.

9/22/1516, The male heirs of Walter Culpeper my nephew to have the manor of Heronden, and the tenement of the Bavre. (S) Will of his uncle Richard Colepeper.
