7/4/1376, Robert de Grey, son and heir of John de Grey of Rotherfeld knight, to John de Hermethorp parson of Bedale. Recognisance for £100, to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels in Yorkshire. (S) CCRs.

3/20/1378, Robert Grey of Rotherfield to settle half the manor of Rotherfield, with the advowson of its church, and reversions of the manors of Cogges and Hardwick, half the manor of Fringford and half the advowson of its church, now held in dower by Avice late the wife of Sir John Grey, Robert's grandfather, and of half the manor of Somerton and half the advowson of its church, now held in dower by Matilda late the wife of John Grey, knight, Robert's father, on himself, Joan his wife, and the heirs of his body, with remainder to his own right heirs. 1380, Robert [wife Joan] heir to the other half of Fringford from his step-grandmother Avice who held it in dower.

John had 3 sons by Maud, then his wife, to wit, Bartholomew de Grey, the elder, Robert de Grey and Richard de Grey, and died seised of the manor, which, together with other lands &c., was assigned after his death to the said Maud as her dower of all his lands &c. in the counties of Oxford and York. Bartholomew died without heir of his body during Maud’s lifetime, and Maud died seised of such estate in the manor on 23 January, 10 Richard II. After her death the said Robert, named in the writ, entered into the manor as son and heir male of the said John, and continued his estate therein all his life. Duston.
