By 1189, §§William son of Turstin succeeded his brother Richard as sheriff of Hampshire and heir to his estates. [Gilbert de Popham held the same lands at his death in 1251.]

1225, Roberts paternal grandmother §§Agnes died.

3/13/1225, Hampshire. Agnes of Popham held of the king in chief 3 hides, half a virgate and a fourth part of one virgate of land and a mill in Binsted, and 1.5 hides and half a virgate of land and a mill with appurtenances in Alton, by the service of 110s per annum, and that Gilbert, her son, is her nearest heir, whose homage the king has taken. 11/4/1251, IPM of Gilbert de Popham. Southampton: Robert, his son, aged 25, is his heir. Bensted town, land and meadow, £4 5s 4d rent from free tenants, and villeins' rents and services, held by £4 6s 9d rent to the king. (S) CIsPM.

1277-78, Robert witnessed a charter to Hyde abbey.

By 1284, Robert died.
