7/10/1316, IPM of Simon Darches alias de Arches. Buckingham: Edrope. Two parts of the manor (extent given), including a wood in the king’s forest of Bernewode, held of the king in chief as of the honour of Walyngford by service of 3 knights’ fees. (Richard) his son, aged 4 at Hock Day (last), is his next heir. (S) CIsPM. [Authorization for records of 7/11/1316 given in the inquisition.]

Family notes:

·         The evidence for Joan’s ancestry is circumstantial, but sufficient for a proposal.

·         1293, Peter de la Haye, brother of John de la Haye, and maternal uncle of Eustache Fitz Ralph (2498739), d/o (4997479) Joan de la Haye; died leaving a daughter Joan (b.1289), age 20, heiress of her uncle John de la Haye of lands in Sussex. [But not the heiress of her father due to reversions.] (S) CIsPM of Joan late the wife of John de la Haye, 11/24/1309.

7/11/1316, Licence, for a fine of 100s. made by John de la Haye, for Joan, late the wife of Simon Darches, tenant in chief as of the honour of Wallingford, to marry whomsoever she will in the king's fealty. (S) CFRs. [The honour of Wallingford, seated in Oxford, included lands of Buckingham and other counties.]

7/11/1316, Commitment to John de la Haye of the wardship of 2 parts of the lands late of the same Simon Darches, extended at £12 6s 6d a year by the escheator on this side Trent, until the full age of Richard, son and heir of Simon, at the rent of £14 a year. (S) CFRs.

7/11/1316, Grant to John de la Haye, for a fine of £50, of the marriage of Richard, son and heir of the said Simon Darches, a minor in the king's ward, so that if he die before reaching a marriageable age and being married, John shall have the marriage of his nearest heir and so from heir to heir.
