2/25/1870, a railroad accident occurred between Oxford and Water Valley when a trestle collapsed while a train was crossing. The accident made national newspapers, including the 3/18/1870 issue of the New York Harper’s Weekly.

2/3/1881 at 3 PM in Lafayette Co., Martha and James Alexander Brewer, born 7/8/1858 in MS, were married by Rev. George C Pritchard. (S) Dollahite Family Bible.
6/29/1900, (S) 1900 Census, MS, Tallahatchie Co., Hermison?. James runs and “edge saw”. Martha has had 4 children, 3 surviving. The 2 youngest daughters live with them. [This census indicates her parents were born in NC.]
8/21/1907, James died. (S) Family record.
5/27/1910, (S) 1910 Census, MS, Panola Co. Martha “Mattie S Brewer” lives with her daughter Lillie. She has had 4 children, 3 surviving.
1/2/1916, “Sunday evening at four thirty”, Martha died. (S) Dollahite Family Bible.

4/25/1930, (S) 1930 Census, MS, Panola Co., Bt3. They rent their home. He is not a veteran. The youngest 4 children are in school. John is a farmer.
12/20/1960, Lillie, “of Courtland”, died; buried in Shilo UMC Cem.

He married Bobby Doty.

Jessee Wm Shankle, born 10/29/1918 in MS.
3/17/1941, an automobile service man, having completed 3 years of high school, he enlisted in the Army at Camp Shelby.
6/12/1991, he died in Batesville, Panola Co., MS; buried in Shilo UMC Cem. (S) SSDI.
Katherine Shankle, born 1921 in MS.
