Bef. 1716, Elce born in VA?; d/o 130. Nathaniel Hix & 131. Rebecca ?.
11/26/1728, Elce named in her father’s will.
Aft. 1728, John married Elce in Goochland Co., VA. They lived in the Tuckaho Creek area.
12/6/1735, “the bounds of land between John Cox and Thos. Jordan renewed.” (S) The Vestry Book Of Henrico Parish, Virginia, 1874, P35.
9/20/1738, John sold land to John Lewis. [note: John signed the deed]. (S) Goochland Co., VA, DB3, Pt1, PP238-9.
7/21/1739, John appointed to survey the lines for the Parish’s 8th precinct “according to law”. (S) The Vestry Book Of Henrico Parish, Virginia, 1874, P47.
9/12/1739, John appeared in court when the 1738 deed was recorded.
9/17/1739, John bought land from John Williams. (S) Goochland Co., VA, DB3, Pt1, PP239-240.
11/30/1743, John stored tobacco listed as “No. 16, G.1010, N.899, Tare.111” in the Gray’s Creek warehouse in Surry Co. on the James River. (S) Henning’s Statutes at Large, V5, P367. This tobacco was subsequently lost by being “drowned”, for which the Gen. Assembly compensated for the losses.
8/14/1747, John appointed to survey the lines for the Parish’s 9th precinct. (S) The Vestry Book Of Henrico Parish, Virginia, 1874, P79.
5/1754, John is involved in a lawsuit with his step-father Thomas Jordan. (S) No. 256 Family notes.
6/13/1757, “… Between John Cox and Alce his Wife of the County of Goochland in St James’s Northam Parish …” sell 317 acres for 150 pounds & 10 schillings. The deed implies they were considering moving. (S) Goochland Co., VA 1757 Deed Bk7, P162-3. According to other sources the land sold was in the Tuckhoe Creek area. (S) Goochland Co., VA, DB7, PP162-3.
By 1762 Elce died.
3/29/1762, John [without Elce being mentioned, only “his heirs”] sold land to Richard Wilkinson. (S) Goochland Co., VA, DB8, PP245.
3/13/1785, John’s will written.
1785, John died in Goochland Co., VA.
9/19/1785, John’s will probated in Goochland Co., VA. Most everything was left to Edward. Son Henry moves to TN shortly after this.

• Will of John Cox, Goochland Co, VA, probated Sept 19,1785: In the name of God Amen, I John Cox, of the county of Goochland, VA, and Parish of Saint James Northam, being weak of body...I give and bequeath to my son Edward Cox, two negros, Sam and Fanny, and their increase and (?) land I now live and all my stock of every kind. I give to my daughter Obedience Hilton, (?) negro Sue ? which she hath in possession. I give to my daughter Glaphery Davis, One negro girl, named Lucky, with her increase, which she hath in her possession. I give to my son Henry Cox 30 shillings sterling. I give to my son John Cox one shilling sterling. I give to my son Edward Cox’s daughter, Sally, one negro girl named Phyllis and if said Sally should die without heir then to her brother John Cox. I give to Edward Cox’s son Jesse, negro Tom. I appoint my beloved son, Edward Cox, Executor. Witnessed by Jon. Robards, Stephen Murrell, John Williams.

1790, Joseph died in Wake Co., NC. (S) Joseph’s will: NC Wills, Bk–D, P303.
1790, (S) 1790 Census, NC, Wake Co. Glaphery: 2 m’s > 16, 1 m < 16; 6 f’s, 8 slaves. [Benj Davis, Jane Davis and Susannah Davis are also listed near them.]
1800, (S) 1800 Census, NC, Wake Co. Glaphery has 2 girls living with her; both 10–15. [The only Davis’ in Wake Co. except for Benjamin Davis Sr, and his son.]
[No Census’ exit for Wake Co. for 1810 & 1820].
