~1662, in Bristol, England, Roger apprenticed to William Fowler in VA for 4 years.
4/1/1672, Roger an immigrant and early settler of MD, having arrived with his wife Dorothy. (S) Early Settlers of Maryland by Skordas.
10/22/1672 in Somerset Co., MD, “Roger Phillips & Dorothy Clarke were marryed by Mr. Robert Maddox ocober ye two & twentieth Anoq Dominy one thousand six hundred seaventy & two.”. (S) Old Somerset on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, P399. [A remarriage for some reason – son Thomas already having been born.]

9/11/1673, Roger registered his cattle mark in Somerset Co., MD.

1688, Roger registered his cattle mark in Somerset Co., MD.

11/13/1691, “After the Court was Called. The Jurors were Ordered to be called, all appearing except Wm: Innis & Roger: Philips. for which remissness the Court Ordered them to be fined, unles they could show cause. and forth with Came the sd Innis & Philips, craved pardon of their worpps. and then there fine was remitted.”

10/14/1698 in Stepney Parish, Somerset Co., Roger wrote his will. To wife Dorothy, personalty and life interest in dwelling plantation. To son Richard and young. dau. Sarah jointly, and their hrs., 100 A. (unnamed) purchased from Simon Perkins, and 25 A. additional thereto. To eld. son Thomas and dau. Dorothy jointly, and their hrs., “Oxbury.” To dau. Phoebe and hrs., “Smithfield.” To dau. Eliza Crouch and granddau. Eliza Crouch, personalty. Wife and son Richard afsd., joint exs. Residue of estate among wife and 3 daus., Phoebe, Dorothy, and Sarah.
1699, Roger died in Somerset Co., MD.
12/31/1699, Roger’s will probated.
(S) They Lived in Somerset, 17th Century Marylanders.

• 1/1675, Thomas Phillips, an original settler of Somerset Co., MD, received 50 acres. (S) Old Somerset on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, P476. Henry Phillips also arrived shortly after this time.

“Roger ye son of Roger Phillips was borne att Wickocomoco of Dorothy his wife ye twelfth day of March Annoq Dominy one thousand six hundred seaventy & ffower.”

iii. Elizabeth Phillips, born 6/1/1679 in Somerset Co., MD.
“Elizabeth Phillips ye daughter of Roger Phillips was borne att Wickocomoco of Dorothy his wife ye ffirst day of June Annoq Dominy one thousand six hundred seaventy nine.”
Eliza married ? Crouch.
10/14/1698, Eliza received “personality” in her father’s will.

She married John Reddish.

iv. Richard Phillips, born 2/8/1681 in Somerset Co., MD.
“Richard Phillips the son of Roger Phillips borne of Dorothy his wife the eight day of ffebruary Annoq Dom one thousand six hundred eighty & one.”
Richard married Jane Collier; d/o Robert & Elizabeth Dashiell.
10/14/1698, Richard received 100 acres jointly with Sarah in his father’s will.
1724, Richard died.
6/15/1726 in Somerset Co., Jane wrote her will. To 2 youngest child., Dorothy and James, personalty left by dec’d husband, Richard Phillips, to pay for schooling. To son Richard and 3 eldest daus., Ann, Sarah and Betty, personalty. To 8 child. — thirds equally. Child. to be kept together until 2 youngest sons are educated and bound to a trade.

He married Alice ?.
1754, he died.

v. Sarah Phillips, born ~1683 in Somerset Co., MD.
10/14/1698, Sarah received 100 acres jointly with Richard in her father’s will.

vi. Pheby Phillips, born 4/18/1684 in Somerset Co., MD.
“Pheby Phillips the daughter of Roger Phillips was borne of Dorithy his wife the the eighteenth day of Aprill Annoq Dom one thousand six hundred eighty and four.”
10/14/1698, Phoebe received “Smithfield” in her father’s will.

vii. Henry Phillips, born 4/15/1687 in Somerset Co., MD.
“Henry Phillips son of Roger Phillips borne of Dorithy his wife the 15th of Aprill one thousand six hundred eighty & seaven.”

viii. Dorothy Phillips, born 2/29/1688 in Somerset Co., MD.
“Dorothy Phillips borne of Dorothy Phillips daughter of Roger Phillips the twenty nynth day of ffebruary one thousand six hundred eighty eight.”
10/14/1698, Dorothy received “Oxbury” in her father’s will.
