1637, Noel born in Parish of Beaumoyen, Angouleme, Poitou, France; s/o 3648. Pierre Simard & 3649. Suzanne Durand.

7/25/1646, Madeleine born in Quebec, Canada; d/o 3650. Etienne Racine & 3651. Marguerite Martin.

1657, Noel traveled to New France with his father who had a land concession. They traveled on the ship “Le Taureau.”

6/21/1657, Pierre and son Noel arrived in Quebec.

Noel’s father Pierre obtained a concession in the seigneury of Beaupre. Noel helped his father clear the land.

2/2/1660 at Chateau Richer, Bishop Laval confirmed 5 Racine family members: Marguerite Martin, Louise, Noel, Madeleine and Francois.

11/13/1661, Noel contracted to marry Madeleine. Madeleine’s maternal grandparents were present. Madeleine’s parents pledged 18 minots of wheat, 2 oxen, a cow, and various household articles with a total value of 526 livres. Noel’s father pledged half of a concession with house, shed, livestock, and furniture. Noel could have the other half by paying his sister Suzanne [living in France] 300 livres.

11/22/1661 in Chateau Richer, a Tuesday, Noel, a laboureur, married Madeleine, a resident of Chateau Richer. Both fathers named.

1666 census of Beaupre: Noel 29 – a mason , Marie 20, son Pierre 3, son Noel 16 months. [“Madeleine”, age 20, is also listed with her parents – she may have been visiting – not listed in the 1667 census with her parents.]

1667 census of Comte de Montmorency: Noel 30, Marie 21, son Pierre 4, son Noel 2, Marie 8 months.

1667, Pierre and son Noel arranged to take possession of Pierre Gibouin’s land, who wanted to return to France. [But they lacked the necessary funds.]

10/16/1667, Pierre and son Noel took possession of Gibouin’s lands with financial support from Monsignor Laval, Bishop of Quebec.

1677, Noel, because of mounting debt and a promise to Bishop Laval, agreed to move to Baie St Paul on a 5-year lease. In return the Bishop nullified Noel’s debts. Baie St Paul, “the land from the St-François-Xavier coast of the Petite River to those which extend along the Gouffre River, except for that already being exploited by Claude Bouchard.” A 5-year commitment, Noël would oversee the property and would be able to keep half of the animals born from the herd; with the remainder going to Monsignor Laval. Noel had some buildings to build, but the lumber mill and flour mill were already started.

1679, Bishop Laval sent Pierre Tremblay to assist Noel.

1679, Noel granted his own land by Bishop Laval, close to Cap Maillaird [now Petitie Riviere St Francois.]

By 1680, Noel had brought his family to the Petite Riviere.

4/24/1689, Madeleine’s father died; her mother already deceased.

11/25/1689, the land of Madeleine’s father was divided into 8 parts and assigned by the drawing of lots.

12/6/1690, Noel and Madeleine residents of Baie St Paul. (S) Wedding of son Pierre Noel.

8/27/1691, Msgr. De Laval sold land to the heirs of Etienne Racine, including the Noel Simard, at a very good price.

By 1697, Noel and Madeleine, of Petite Riviere Pres de La Baie St-Paul, Paroisse de St-Francois-Xavier.

6/23/1712 in St Joachim, Noel and Madeleine, of Petite Riviere Pres de La Baie St-Paul, Paroisse de St-Francois-Xavier, present for the marriage contract signing of their son Francois.

7/24/1715, Noel died in an epidemic at Petitie Riviere. Inventory of their Noel’s possessions: titles and various papers, an axe; a saw; a barrel of salted eel; 15 pounds of tin; a bag of tobacco.

12/3/1726, Madeleine died at the home of her son Paul.

Family notes:
• “Lombrette” means “a little shade”.
• An inventory of Noel’s possessions indicates he was a laborer, a carpenter and sawer, an eel fisherman, a farmer, and perhaps a tin smith.

4/26/1689 in Baie St Paul, Noel married Anne Dodier; they lived on the Petite river.
4/9/1726, Noel died in Baie St Paul.

iii. Marie Madeleine Simard, born 1/4/1667 in Chateau Richer, Canada.
11/3/1683 in Ste Anne, Madeleine married 1828. Pierre Tremblay.
8/24/1684, Madeleine died in Ste Anne de Beaupre.

iv. Etienne Simard, born 3/4/1669 in Chateau Richer, Canada.
11/22/1695, Etienne married Rosalie Bouchard.
11/14/1715, Etienne died at Petitie River.

v. Francoise Simard, born 9/4/1671 in Ste Anne de Beaupre, Canada.
4/28/1688 in Baie St Paul, Francoise married Jean Allaire.
1705 in St Joachim, Francoise married Noel Boucher, s/o 3754. Jean Boucher dit Lafontaine & 3755. Marie Madeleine Pare.
8/16/1714, Francoise died in Quebec.

vi. Joseph Simard, born 2/4/1674 in Ste Anne de Beaupre, Canada.
4/20/1700, Joseph married Gertrude, d/o 3654. Jean Baptiste Caron & 3655. Marguerite Gagnon.
10/30/1702, Joseph married Marie Blouin.
9/25/1738, Joseph died in Ste Anne de Beaupre.

vii. Augustin Simard, born 4/3/1676 in Ste Anne de Beaupre, Canada.
6/24/1710 in St Joachim, Augustin married Marguerite Pare, d/o 1826. Noel Pare & 1827. Marguerite Caron.
8/20/1735, Augustin died in Ste Anne de Beaupre.

viii. Francois Simard (912), born 9/22/1678 in Ste Anne de Beaupre, Canada.

ix. Rosalie Simard, born 11/13/1680 in Baie St Paul, Canada.
[Rosalie was the first child registered in the baptismal records of Baie St. Paul.]
10/29/1696 in Baie St Paul, Rosalie married Jean Caron, s/o 3654. Jean Baptiste Caron & 3655. Marguerite Gagnon.
7/1714, Rosalie died in Ste Anne de Beaupre.

x. Paul Simard, born 11/25/1681 in Baie St Paul, Canada.
6/10/1716, Paul married Genevieve Gagnon.
8/1733, Paul died in Baie St Paul.

xi. Marguerite Simard, born 1/14/1684 in Baie St Paul, Canada.
6/15/1699, Marguerite married Francois Bouchard, a Captaine of the Milice.
1756, Marguerite died.

xii. Jean Simard, born 5/27/1686 in Baie St Paul, Canada.
6/23/1712 in St Joachim, Jean attended his brother Francois’ wedding.
1715, Jean married Genevieve Gravel.
8/4/1715, Jean died in Baie St Paul, his wife pregnant. [They had a son Jean.]

xiii. Marie Madeleine Simard, born 1/19/1689 in Baie St Paul, Canada.
11/20/1704 in Baie St Paul, Marie married Antoine Bouchard.
2/1769, Marie died.

xiv. Catherine Simard, born 5/4/1692 in Baie St Paul, Canada.
