640. Michael Mor Daugherty & 641. Catherine Rogers


~1690, Michael born in Laggan Valley, Co. Donegal, Ireland.

~1692, Catherine born in Laggan Valley, Manorcunningham, Co. Donegal, Ireland.

Aft. 1714 the family emigrated to America.

By 1737, the family 1st settled in Newlondon Derry, Chester Co., PA. The family owned a store.

1738, the family settled in Augusta Co., VA [now Rockbridge Co.] on Borden's Great Grant at the headwater of Cedar and Mill and Broad Creeks of the James River.

1742, “Michael O’Doeherty” was in Capt. John Buchanan’s militia company.

1747, Michael appointed Constable.

1761, Michael died; estate appraised by Joseph Culton.

Children of Michael and Catherine:

i. William Daugherty, born ~1712 in Muff, Inishowen, Co. Donegal, Ireland.
William, called “Sam” was an Indian agent and married a Cherokee Indian called Elizabeth Bunch.
Bef. 10/29/1743, William granted land on Cowpasture River, Augusta Co., VA.
7/6/1773, William died in Montgomery Co., VA.

ii. Michael Oge Daugherty (320), born 1714 in Lifford, Inishowen, Donegal, Ireland.

iii. Charles Daugherty, born ~1716 in Laggan Valley, Co. Donegal, Ireland.
Charles married Rebecca Cunningham.
1755-56, Charles served in the Augusta Co. militia in the French and Indian War.
7/1763 on a Sunday morning, Charles killed on Kerr Creek during an Indian raid by the braves of Cornstalk; Rebecca surviving.
