1626, Madeleine born in St-Nicolas-des-Champs, Paris, France; d/o §Jacques Triot & §Catherine Guichant.

Charles educated to write and count.

9/19/1657, Charles a witness to the marriage contract of 3656. Pierre Tremblay & 3657. Ozanne Achon. [Charles signed his name.]

1658, Madeleine arrived in New France.

8/25/1658, Charles contracted to marry Madeleine. Charles endowed Madeleine with 50 livres annually. “All the upper crust of Quebec society gathered to hear the reading.” – TJ Laforest.

9/10/1658 in Quebec, Charles, age 32, married Madeleine, age 32. Both origins given. All parents named. Attending: Jean de Lauzon, seneschal; Louis de Lauzon de la Sitiere.

1/26/1659, Charles and Romain Trepanier received a concession in the fief of Lotinville, 40 arpents by a league and half in depth, from Lauzon.

2/2/1660 at Chateau Richer, Charles confirmed by Msgr de Laval.

1660, Charles recorded as a tenant of the fief of Seigneur de Lotinville near Beaupre.

By 7/1663, Charles had built a stone house, 37x22 feet, 2 chimneys, a brick oven, and an attic covered with planks; and a 25x18 feet straw-covered barn.

8/29/1663, Merchant Antoine Berson, Sieur de Chatillion, offered Charles 1100 livres, plus 40 livres for pins for Marie, and 5 livres for wine for their home. Charles accepted the offer with an agreement of payment by 8/29/1664.

8/23/1664, the fief of Lotinville was put up for auction. Charles bid 1200 livres. [The winning bidder offered 2850 livres.]

11/3/1665, Charles gave Bertrand Chenay 2 draft oxen to pay a debt of 300 livres.

10/14/1665 at Chateau Richer, Charles attended the signing of the marriage contract of Antoine Casse dit Lacasse.

1666 census of Comte de Montmorency; Charles 37, Marie 25, children: Catherine Francoise 5, Francoise 3, Marguerite 18 months; Laforest 25, Louis 17 – domestics.

8/12/1666, Charles an appraiser for the estate of Charles Berson.

1667 census of Chateau Richer: Charles had 30 arpents cleared land, 13 cattle.

11/14/1667, Charles bought 3 arpents in Chateau Richer from the widow Legardeur paying 350 livres tournois.

4/29/1668, Charles bought the Goulet property for 350 livres. [This gave Charles 5.5 arpents frontage.]

1670-75, Mathurin Tessier paid rent to Charles for the use of land.

1/24/1671, Charles Lefrancois and Pierre Tremblay appraised the animals in the farm holdings of Lotinville.

1671, Charles named appeared multiple times, including a loan of 184 livres, in the account records of the inventory of banker Chenay.

1672, Charles asked by multiple farmers to appraise the value of their oxen.

5/13/1675, Charles provided a mortage to Mathurin Tessier against a cow.

11/26/1675, Charles provided a mortage to Mathurin Tessier against a cow. [When Mathurin returned to France, Charles was awared the cows.]

3/2/1678, Andrieu sold his land in Lotinville to Charles.

4/7/1680, Charles sold the land bought from Andrieu to his son-in-law Pierre Trudel for 800 livres.

1681 census of Comte de Montmorency [Beaupre]; Charles 55, Marie 40, children: Marie 22, Marguerite 17, Charles 14, Anne 12, Louis 10, Barbe 8, Joseph 7, Nicolas 5, Alexis 3, Pierre 1; 20 arpents of cleared land, 14 cattle, a mare, 2 guns. [Their neighbors were Charles Belanger married to Barbe Cloutier.]

4/9/1683, Charles appraised the Lotinville’s barn as “ruined and beyond repair.”

3/7/1691, Charles Lefrancois, Msgr. De Laval, and Louis Jobidon signed an agreement on the boundaries of their lands in Chateau Richer.

7/13/1694 in Chateau Richer, Charles Lefrancois and Zacharie Cloutier present at the burial of Marie Angelique Guyon, d/o Simon Guyon & Louise Racine.

1/20/1699, Charles and Madeleine arranged for the unmarried sons Nicolas and Pierre to have half of the family property, receiving the rest after their death. The sons had to take care of their parents and pay 250 livres to a year to their siblings.

6/13/1700, Charles, age 74, died in Chateau Richer.

11/18/1701, Madeleine, age 75, died in Chateau Richer. Robert Caron, Jacques Cachon, and Romain Trepainer attended the burial.

• By Abbot Thomas Morel: “Charles Francois, … all residents of Beaupre, were on the water going to Quebec, when they were overtaken by a great wind and a furious storm which caused their canoe to overturn. Sensing the danger of losing their lives, they made a vow to Sainte-Anne and asked her to help them. They received help at once. They were safely blown onto the shore where they gave thanks to the great saint for their deliverance.”
