~1217, Gerald born in Ireland, s/o 19989656. Maurice Fitz Gerald.

1235, Gerald [likely] with his father when he attacked Connaught with a large force.

1242, Gerald and his father Maurice joined the King’s expedition to Poitou.

5/20/1242, King Henry III with his brother Richard arrived at Royen, France with a small contingent; but with 30 tons of gold. They were soon joined by French nobles against the forces of the Count of Poitou and King Louis IX.

7/1242, The 2 armies met at the battles of Taillebourgh and Saintes, with the superior sized French force winning.

9/7/1242 at Bordeaux, France, Chater of Matthew son of Griffin … Witnesses :- H. de Bohun, earl of Hereford and Essex, R. de Quency, earl of Winchester, John son of Geoffrey, Hugh de Vivona, Richard de Burgo, Gerald son of Maurice, … (S) CPRs.

9/27/1242, King Henry returned to England, leaving a retinue under several earls.

1/2/1243 at Bordeaux, France, To M. son of Gerold, jusiticary of Ireland,  and G. de Turvill, treasurer of Ireland, to let Gerald son of Maurice have £100 of the king’s treasure by gift of the king. (S) CPRs.

1243, Gerald was sent back to England by the king [usually knights were sent to get provisions or horses.]

4/1243, Back in France, Henry arranged a 5-year truce. All of Poitou and some towns in Gascony were ceded to France.

7/15/1243, Mandate … to discharge the freight of the ships in which Gerald Fitz Maurice and his retinue shall cross to the K.’s service in parts beyond the sea. (S) Cal. of Doc’s Relating to Ireland, V1, 1875, P393.

7/17/1243 at Bordeaux, France, Mandate to M. son of Gerold, jusiticary of Ireland,  and G. de Turvill, treasurer of Ireland, to cause Gerald son of Maurice £200 for the acquittance of his wages … (S) CPRs.

9/6/1243, at Bordeaux, France, Mandate to M. son of Gerold, jusiticary of Ireland,  and G. de Turvill, archdeacon of Dublin and treasurer of Ireland, to let Gerold son of Maurice have £50 of the gift of the king. (S) CPRs.

1243, Gerald died in Gascony, before his father.

i. Maurice Fitz Gerald (4997414), born ~1238 in England.

ii. Juliana FitzMaurice, born ? in Ireland.

Juliana married John de Cogan.
