12/27/1640, Jean baptized in St Jean de Montaigu, Vendee, France; s/o 7776. Louis Brochu & 7777. Renee Gaschet.

1651, Nicolle baptized in Parish of St Christopher, Ile de France, Paris France; d/o §Pierre Saulnier & §Jeanne Chavillard.

5/13/1665, Jean left France by ship for New France.

8/19/1665, Jean arrived in Quebec on the ship La Paix, a private in Carnignan Regiment.

1666, Jean in the census of Quebec as a soldier.

6/2/1667, Jean Brochu dit Lafontaine was given a concession on the Ile d’Orleans; which he signed.

6/30/1669, Nicolle, orphaned and a “daughter of the King”, arrived in Quebec.

10/7/1669, Jean signed his wedding contract with Nicolle. Witnesses: Barbe de Boulongne, Louis D’Ailleboust’s widow, former New France Governor; and Anne Gasnier, Jean Bourdon’s widow.

10/28/1669, a Monday, at Ste Famille, Ild d’Orleans, Quebec, Jean married Nicolle, age 19. Her father, a master cooper, was deceased. On the same day, Jean was a witness for the wedding of 1988. Claude Lefebvre dit Boulanger & 1989. Marie Arcular.

1681 census of Ste Famille, I.O.; Jean 40, Nicole 30, children: Jean 9, Marie 7, Anne 4; 4 cattle and 16 acres of land.

10/17/1684, Jean and [3894] Jacques Bidet sign a lease for 5 years with Roger Gabriel.

1685, Jean with his family in St Jean. (S) Villeneuve map.

1689, Jean lived with his family in the southwest section of the I.O.. They owned lot number 20 with a frontage of 3 arpents on the St Lawrence river.

1691, Jean received a grant in St Jean.

11/19/1691 in Ile d’Orleans, St Jean, Jean attended the wedding of 1946. Charles Allaire & 1947. Marie Bidet. [This attendee was not listed as being single, so it was this Jean and not the son.]

7/8/1696, a Sunday, Jean, resident of St Jean, attended the wedding contract signing of his daughter Anne. Jean promised to give the sum of 400 pounds during the first year of the marriage.

3/29/1699, Jean owed merchant Gabriel Duprat 200 pounds.

2/27/1705, Jean, age 65, died at St Jean, Ile d’Orleans; buried the next day.

Aft. 10/14/1709, when Nicolle’s son Mathurin died; Nicolle gave the family estate to her surviving son Jean.

5/6/1710, Nicole Saulnier, widow of Jean Brochu and mother-in-law of Noel Brem, witnessed a contract of Noel.

11/2/1714, Nicolle, age 63, died of “measles or rheumatism” at St Jean, Ile d’Orleans; buried the next day.

Children of Jean and Nicolle:

i. Jean Brochu (1944), born 9/6/1672 in Ste Famille, Ile d’Orleans, Quebec, Canada.

ii. Marie Brochu, born 7/13/1675 in Ste Famille, Ile d’Orleans, Quebec, Canada.
6/2/1692, Marie married Jean Tanguay. [11 children.]
2/7/1753, Marie died in St Vallier, Quebec.
[There is a commemorative plaque to this family in front of the church of Saint Vallier de Bellechasse.]

iii. Anne Brochu (1879), born 3/26/1678 in Ste Famille, Ile d’Orleans, Quebec, Canada.
4/2/1697, Anne married Noel Lebrun dit Carrier of Picardy. [10 children.]
12/28/1749, Anne died in St Vallier, Quebec.

iv. Mathurin Brochu, born 4/15/1682 in Ste Famille, Ile d’Orleans, Quebec, Canada.
10/14/1709, Mathurin died.
