1167, Robert de la Mare holding lands in Wiltshire. (S) Hist. of the Monastery Founded at Tynemouth, V2, Gibson, 1847, P42. [Likely property obtained through marriage to Aliza.]

By 1172, Robert de la Mare had succeeded his father at Uffington [Oxfordshire.]

1186, Robert de la Mare attested an act of Herbert de Castello.

7/6/1189, Richard I succeeded Henry II as King of England.

12/12/1189, Robert de la Mare departed on crusade with King Richard I. (S) Debrett’s Baronetage of England, Dbrett, 1815, P1212.

9/22/1190, King Richard’s army arrived at Sicily.

1191, Richard captured the city of Messina, Sicily, after they had refused to let the English ships land.

5/1191, Richard captured Cyprus, which he would use as a supply base for his forces.

6/1191, The English forces arrived at Acre, where French forces were already besieging the city.

7/21/1191, Acre fell to the crusaders.

9/5/1191, King Richard’s crusader forces defeated Saladin at the battle of Arsuf.

9/8/1191, King Richard’s forces arrived a Jaffa to find it’s fortifications destroyed. [Richard spent 3 months repairing the fortifications at Jaffa and along the road back to Acre.]

1192, Richard moved to Ascalon, on the coast south of Acre, and spent 4 months rebuilding its fortifications.

8/1/1192, Richard conducted a sea assault on Jaffa, which had been recaptured by Saladin.

9/9/1192, King Richard left to return to England.

1193, On his return from crusading, Robert arrived at Benevento, Italy, where he became sick and died.

Family notes:

1256, William Mauduit (60849344), in a suit about Oxenbold with the prior of Wenlock, gave his title of descent: Robert de la Mare (486794754), to Agnes (243397377) his daughter and heir, to Thomas (121698688) her son and heir, to Robert and Thomas his sons who died without issue, to William their brother, the present plaintiff.
