8/4/1907, Cecilia Horowitz, age 20 and born in Austria, arrived in NY from Hamburg on the ship Kaiserin Augusta Victoria. Her last permanent address was Podgorze.

2/14/1910, Isadore Cohen married Celia Horowitz in NY, NY. (S) NY, NY Marriage License Indexes, License Number 3995.

1913-1917, Isadore and Celia lived in NY. (S) Births of children.

9/12/1918, Isadore registered for the WWI draft. He was medium height, medium build, brown hair and black hair. Isadore and wife Celia live at 211 E. 3rd St., NY, NY. Isadore forn August 14, 1884. Isadore is a laborer at Universal Co., 172 N. 10th St. Brooklyn, NY. (S) WWI Draft Card.

4/15/1930, Isadore and family rent their home at 304 Peshine Ave, Newark, NJ, for $40 a month. Ages: Isadore 46, Celia 48,  Harry 12, Morris 14, and Mollie 16. Isadore and Celia speak Jewish. Isadore works in a butcher in a shop. (S) U.S. 1930 Census.

4/1/1936, Isadore and family live at 127 Peshine Ave, Newark, NJ. (S) 1940 Census.

3/24-30/1940, Isadore worked 60 hours as a butcher in a store he owns, Mollie 48 hours as a bookkeeper in a chain market, Marris (Murray) 48 hours as a clerk in his father’s butcher store, and Harry 54 hours as a meat salesman. (S) 1940 Census.

4/12/1940, The family lives at 127 Peshine Ave, Newark, NJ. The rent their home for $48 a month. Isadore Cohen age 55, wife Celia age 54, daughter Mollie age 26, son Morris (Murray) age 24, son Harry age 22, none of whom are in school. Isadore was born in Russia, Celia in Austria, and the children in New York. Mollie has had 4 years of High School, and Morris and Harry have each completed 5 years of College. Isadore is a naturalized citizen, Celia an alien. Everyone except Celia works. Isadore, a store owner, was paid no wages in 1939. Mollie earned $1400 in 1939, and Harry earned $3000 in 1939. By 1953, The family moved to Broward Co., FL.

11/3/1953, “Isadore Cohen and Celia Cohen his wife to Max L. Hymanson and wife: Lot 16, Blk. 12, South Hollywood Amended.” (S) Daily Deed Record of the Fort Lauderdale News.

1/9/1978, Ida Barsel of North Miami Beach passed away January 6, 1978. Came to North Miami Beach from Brooklyn, N.Y. Was a member of Hadassah and is survice by ... two sisters Helem Sokol, North Miami Beach and Celia Cohen Miami Beach. ... Interment ... Star of David Cemetery, Broward Co. (S) Fort Lauderdale News.

1978, Celia died before Isadore. [Not named in Isadore’s obit.]

9/17/1978, Isadore died.

9/22/1978, Isadore’s obituary: “Isadore Cohen, Dead at 94. Funeral Services were held Sept. 18 for Isadore Cohen, 94, a former 20-year resident of Newark, N.J. Mr. Cohen was a member of the Board of Directors of Beth Jacob Synagog where he was a Gabai for 20 years. Surviving are his children, Joseph of Miami Beach, Mrs. Mollie Roloff of Hollywood, Murray Cohen of North Miami Beach, Harry Cohen of Fort Lauderdale, sisters, Mrs. Frieda Yampolosky of Miami Beach and Mrs. Dora Lefkowitz of Miami Beach; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.” (S) Jewish Floridian, P15.

2006, Morris selected to be one of 60 senior citizens in the state of Florida, to be part of the Wisdom of the Ages exhibit that traveled throughout the Smithsonian Museum. (S) Obituary.

6/2010, Morris died.

6/12/2010, Morris obit: “Murray was born in 1915, to Isadore and Celia Cohen in New York City, N.Y. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph Cohen, Harry Cohen, and his dear sister, Mollie Klier Roloff. He was married for 68 years to his adoring wife, Ruth. Murray and Ruth truly had a love story for the ages. Murray is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Richard Homan, Marilyn and Michael Spiegel; grand-children, Brett Spiegel, Todd and Andrea Homan, Sean and Sarah Spiegel, Dean and Karina Spiegel, Lauren Homan Wilson and Donna Wilson; and two great grandchildren, Ryan and Luke Homan. Murray served in World War II. He is also known for his many years of community service activities. In 2006, Murray was selected to be one of 60 senior citizens in the state of Florida, to be part of the Wisdom of the Ages exhibit that traveled throughout the Smithsonian Museum system concluding in Washington, D.C. Murray has been honored by both the Broward County Commission and the Florida House of Representatives. Murray was a truly good man. His children and grandchildren are proud to have inherited his value system recognizing family, community, and integrity above all else. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to T.O.P. Jewish Foundation care of Weinberg Village Assisted Living Residences. Services will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, June 14, at Beth David Chapel, 3201 N. 72nd Ave., Hollywood, Fla. The family will be sitting Shiva, following the ceremonies and Tuesday and Wednesday at the Homewood Suites, 2061 Griffin Road, Dania Beach, Fla. Shiva will continue in Tampa Thursday and Friday, at 3404 Country Woods Ct. Lutz, Fla. (Tampa).” (S) Tampa Bay Times.
